Mikey Wax & So You Think You Can Dance

Last week I had the pleasure of interviewing musician Mikey Wax and getting to know him a bit better. If you’re a fan of So You Think You Can Dance, you might recognize his song, “Counting On You,” as the men’s elimination song this season.

Besides having an awesome voice, Mikey isn’t rough on the eyes. And he likes long walks on the beach.

Hi Mikey! Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a piano player-guitarist-singer & songwriter (sounds more than it actually is), from Long Island, NY. I’ve been playing and writing music my entire life, attended college at Vanderbilt University, and have released a few records while touring non-stop since graduating. I also like long walks on the beach.

What are some of your favorite reality shows?

To be honest, I’m not a huge reality TV show guy, however, if someone else puts it on, I do become glued to the couch. This has happened with Cribs and Kardashians, for better or worse.  Also definitely became a fan of SYTYCD since they started featuring my song… it’s very entertaining.

How do you find time to watch television? I’m sure your schedule is crazy.

The first thing I do when I get to a hotel after a show is put on the TV. It’s something to look forward to after a long day of traveling and performing. I also catch up with my favorite shows through Netflix and Hulu.

What were some of your favorite moments on SYTYCD this season?

Most recently, for the guys, when it came down to Cole and Cyrus, that was really nerve racking because both are so talented and both deserve never to be kicked off any stage. All of the women are incredible too. Eliana is inspiring to watch, but it was hard to see Witney go. I think I might have had a crush on her.

Tell us about the opportunity that SYTYCD has given you, and how this came to fruition.

I’m going to start using the word fruition more! It’s been an unbelievable opportunity for me to have millions of SYTYCD fans hear my song each week. It’s definitely been a game-changer and I’m just hoping to continue moving forward and reaching more people with my music. I said from the moment I received this opportunity, if even 5 or 10 more people are at each show from now on because of it, that’s all I can ask for… exposure.

Can’t help but notice you’re cute… For all of my single readers, are you single or off the market?

Ha. Thanks. I’m definitely single.

Any upcoming shows?

Yes. I have several shows coming up in September and October around the East coast. You can view all the tour dates at my website, http://mikeywax.com :)

  2. Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up.
The words in your content seem to be running off
the screen in Ie. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought I’d
post to let you know. The style and design look
great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon.
